Fall Kirk Nights
Instigate, Educate, Elevate

Kirk Nights in November are designed to instigate, educate, and elevate. Our Kirk Night leaders hope to instigate questions about worship, educate you about the potential spiritual enrichment of worship, and ultimately, elevate your experience in worship. It's kind of an "Everything you wanted to know about worship but didn't know to ask" opportunity.
On Wednesday evenings, November 2, 9, 16, join us in Stanton Hall for a satisfying soup and bread buffet from 5:45 – 6:30
p.m. and then enjoy an enlightening program from 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. Each week will focus on different aspects of worship as revealed
in the scriptures and embraced by Presbyterians. The more you know, the more your experience in worship services will be enriched.
That’s our hope, anyway.
Wednesday, November 2 – Music and Worship led by David Kunkel.
We will answer some of the questions that are occasionally asked and deal with some common misconceptions regarding music in
Reformed worship. How our hymnal is arranged, how music is chosen for worship, and what constitutes “appropriate” music for
Reformed worship are only some of the issues we will discuss. (No one will be asked to sing a solo)
Wednesday, November 9 – God-centered Worship led by Caroline Jinkins.
Learn about the focus of Reformed worship through the 5 movements around the Word. If you have ever wondered about the
rubric for the PC(USA) service for the Lord’s Day, come learn about the background of our liturgical order of worship and what is at
the heart of our services.
Wednesday, November 16 – Symbols in Worship: Inquiring Minds Want to Know led by Al Butzer and Jacqui Horton.
What does the Christian year have to do with Jesus? Why do the paraments change colors? What are paraments anyway? Why
do we light candles in church? Altar or Communion table: What’s the difference? Chrismons at Christmas, why? How do Christian symbols enrich my worship?
Please contact the office (428-6332 or office@firstpresvb.org) so
we’ll know how many crock pots of soup to provide. If you have another group to attend, that’s not a problem. Join us for food and
fellowship before you meet. No fee since volunteers are sharing their soups and sweets. Childcare provided upon request!
