There were two mission groups from First Presbyterian in Chiapas State, Mexico this summer. They continued the work and relationships first developed in 2007 between First Presbyterian and the Tzeltal Presbyterians in Chiapas.

In the mountain village of Matzam the mission group lived at the church complex and worked on the construction of a new dining hall for the church, which was completely rebuilt in five days. Construction work consisted of carpentry, mixing and pouring concrete, roofing and painting. The group led worship services two nights, led two days of vacation Bible school for the children of the church and nearby community and interacted with members of the Matzam church daily including playing volleyball in the afternoons and hiking one afternoon. Also on the last night they gathered in the new dining hall with the leadership of the church to celebrate the relationship between our churches and the oneness in Christ of all believers.

The mission team that traveled to Ixtapa lived at two off-church sites a short walk from the church. The group assisted in the construction of a retaining wall that will keep the church from collapsing onto the neighboring property. Construction work consisted of excavation, mixing and pouring cement, tying rebar and repainting the church dining facility. This group led worship two nights and vacation Bible school on three afternoons for more than forty children, most of whom do not attend church. On one evening they gathered with the entire church family for history story-telling and on two nights for recreation and game playing. The last night included dinner with the entire church family.
