VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

GALACTIC BLAST VBS 2010 SLIDE SHOW
Would it sound redundant to say Galactic Blast was a real blast? Just ask any Vacation Bible School cadet or leader and you will hear out-of- this- world rave reviews on our summer event. Here is the condensed log of the Starship Galactic Praise 2010.
Kick-off Sunday, July 18th, created the anticipation and excitement of our stellar themes and music. POPS, Puppets of Praise, from St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church presented us with a “really cool” black light performance that impressed adults as well as children. The puppets performed to songs we would learn from Belinda Valet and her moon tunes team during VBS. Children received T-shirts to wear for the week, and foam rockets to launch on the beach. A special thanks to Jeff Nelson, AKA hot dog man, and his food crew who organized our supper on the beach. Did anyone win the watermelon seed spittin’ contest?
If you didn't get a chance to see the amazing decorations at least check out the pictures in the VBS Galactic scrapbook in the Atrium. Although the glow in the dark stairwell is hard to capture with a camera it was an awesome sight to behold as voyagers ‘oohed and aahed ‘traveling to and from their space stations. Next year, on kick-off Sunday, the congregation will be invited to tour the sights and join in the illusion built by our semi-professional set designers. (There is more to VBS now than simple crafts, koolaid and cookies from olden days, I assure you!)
Each day cadets accomplished their mission to bring in items to help those in far away galaxies and right here in Va. Beach.
Here’s a list of what was collected.
For local school children we collected :
88 packs of crayons
89 composition books
153 glue sticks
34 pairs of child sized scissors
But wait there is more:
131 cans of food found their way to our food closet
$153.07 worth of change made its way to Chiapis with the mission team this week.
And… Sharon Sheats , our outreach pilot drove our space shuttle (AKA church van) to the mobile home park transporting 13 kids to our starship Galactic Praise (AKA Stanton Hall) each day. Thanks to April Stevenson, too for being her co-pilot/navigator each way. And… everyday Commander Butzer and our space gorilla guide, Galileo, (AKA Emily Parker) sent our cadets from assembly on Starship Galactic Praise into space. Cadets and their mission pilots traveled to cosmic crafts, Good News Galaxy, orbital lab, rockin’ recreation, and astro bistro. We sang, signed, danced, ate, reflected, and praised God the creator of the Galaxy. All 88 children and 69 volunteers on site each day truly had a Galactic blast. A super nova-sized “Thanks!” to all the adults and youth who wrapped our kids in space blankets of love, while teaching them Bible stories and creating a memorable adventure through God ‘s galaxy. God is Wonderful, Incredible, AMAZING, Magnificent and Awesome! And all the people shouted, “Praise God!”
*Extra pictures of VBS are located on various bulletin boards and parents are welcome to help themselves since we already have copies in the digital scrapbook. Enjoy the scrapbook and see who gave of their time, talents, and love. They seem as numerous as the stars in heaven and definitely deserve a place among them.
After this exhaustive voyage, I have proudly joined the ranks of ‘space cadet',
Logging Out,
