WALK FOR THE CONGO

Nothing Can Go Wrong-O, Walking for the Congo! No truer words were spoken on September 23rd when Circle Mary and 175 people (115 adults and 60 children) set out on the first annual Walk for the Congo. The weather was perfect and a wonderful time of fellowship, exercise and fund-raising was had by all. Circle Mary would like to thank the following people and organizations: Comverge, Inc. (t-shirts); ABC Signs and Graphics (boardwalk sign); Mary Davis (banners); Lifeline, Erin Clemons, and Emily Stoops (carrying the banner); Officer Tommy DeMartini (escorting walkers across Pacific and Atlantic Avenues); Revs. Butzer and Ratliff (tremendous support and cooperation); Lila Davis (commanding the 26th Street hydration station); WVEC (on-air promotion); the City of Virginia Beach (support and cooperation); Tautog’s Restaurant, Nick's Hospitality Restaurant, Dr. Harvey Shiflett, and Chez Madeleine (prizes); Liz Long and Stacy Fuqua (unbelievable hard work for, dedication to and coordination of the entire event). Most especially, though, Circle Mary would like to thank all of you! Through your prayers, support, participation and donations a total of $7,144.00 was raised! This money will go directly to our sister church in the Congo, specifically to feed the children and will feed 357 children for a month or 1,429 for a week! Thank you, God bless, and get ready for next year!

"Walk for the Congo", is a mission to raise funds for the Feed the Children Program sponsored by our sister church in the Congo. Circle Mary is our group of church moms, and each year they give careful thought to how to raise the most money to feed hungry children. In 2005, Circle Mary raised almost $4000, and in 2005 over $500 to help feed hungry children.
